AKDB Payroll Feature
In this redesign project for OK.PERS+, I revamped an existing feature designed for HR personnel responsible for processing payroll. The feature allows them to efficiently order and send payroll reports to employee records. By optimizing navigation and refining the user flow, I enhanced the interface to boost user engagement and streamline payroll management tasks.
The Challenge
In the OK.PERS+ project, one of the key challenges was modernising an outdated design system while simultaneously enhancing the overall user experience of the "Auswertungen" (Reports & Evaluation) feature. The original interface was visually inconsistent and lacked a streamlined user flow, making it difficult for users to navigate complex payroll processes and extract the desired documents.
The Solution
To address the challenges in the "Auswertungen" feature, I redesigned the navigation structure to be more scalable and intuitive. By introducing a more modular layout, users can now access different evaluation types and filters with fewer clicks, reducing friction in daily workflows.
Outcome
As a result of the redesign, the "Auswertungen" feature in OK.PERS+ now offers a significantly improved user experience with streamlined navigation, reduced complexity, and faster access to payroll evaluations. By introducing a modular layout and a more intuitive structure, the new design supports HR personnel in completing tasks more efficiently with fewer clicks.
Working closely with developers in a Scrum environment, I ensured continuous alignment between design and implementation. This close collaboration enabled quick iterations, reduced technical friction, and helped modernize the feature within the constraints of the existing system architecture—all while laying the groundwork for a more scalable design system moving forward.
Project challenges
Old vs New
A key challenge was modernizing the interface within the limits of an outdated design system while ensuring the changes were technically feasible. I also had to quickly get up to speed with complex payroll workflows to design solutions that truly met user needs. Adapting to fast-paced Scrum cycles pushed me to balance design quality with agility, while close collaboration with developers helped ensure alignment and efficient implementation.
What I gained
Becoming an agile expert
This project strengthened my ability to design within complex, real-world constraints while still delivering meaningful improvements to the user experience. I deepened my understanding of Agile workflows and learned how to better collaborate with developers for smoother handoffs and more efficient implementation. Additionally, working on a domain-specific product like payroll gave me valuable experience in quickly adapting to unfamiliar subject matter and translating it into intuitive, user-friendly design solutions.
